Bagging a New Job and Some Serious Workwear Style

Because every new job deserves a new bag (or two... or three)...

Welcome back divas! I don’t know what is in the air but it seems like every single person in my texts and DM’s is just constantly surfing the web shopping just to feel something. Well, actually that is a lie, I do know what it is.

  1. This winter is giving me chills—literally! I know we say this every year, but this one actually feels like it’s out for blood. Temps creeping toward 0°F? That’s not weather, that’s a prank. I even had to seal up my windows because the draft was stronger than my will to leave the house!

  2. We’re officially one week into the new presidency, and it feels like we’re getting the political version of love bombing — all the empty promises, the over-the-top gestures, but you can’t help but wonder if it’s just a distraction from the real issues (spoiler alert: it is).

So with that, I think we are all using retail therapy as a coping mechanism. Most of my girls are either inquiring about a cute clutch for clubby nights out or elevated work bags to stay stylish yet classy in an office setting. One of my readers even purchased the perfect pouchette from last week's volume. An unboxing to come once she has received this coveted cutie!

Confession time: my ode to Proenza Schouler's big career moves last week was a little hint about my own news. It's a new year, and I’ve found myself in a new job! I’m switching employers after ~6 years, going back to an office after ~5 years, and finally dressing like a real human after ~4 years (kidding, but new wardrobe is loading). My beat up Longchamp just won’t cut it anymore, so here’s a roundup of work bags that’ll turn heads without breaking the bank. And yes, I know I work in finance—so all 5 women on the floor will be shook.

First up, we have these Fendi Finds for the 9-to-5 Grind

This black Fendi Canvas Tote is your go-to for effortless office-to-happy hour transitions. Compact, classic, and chic—with an intern-friendly price tag that’s too good to pass up!

While slightly more $, this Fendi Zucchino Hobo is vintage corporate chic at its finest. The monogram adds flair, the roomy interior fits all your essentials, and the black-silver combo screams versatile CEO vibes.

Keeping it classy, this sleek, structured, and versatile Celine Shoulder bag is a workwear must-have—spacious enough for your essentials, and as the early 2000s magazines would say, stylish enough “to go from day to night”.

Again shilling the ever classic Mulberry Bayswater. The red one from the first volume expectedly was scooped up but it is still giving Birkin, Margauex for a fraction of the cost! I scooped up one of these a few months ago and it has become my favorite travel companion and soon to be commute companion.

Going slightly out of budget, I don’t really know why Chanel stopped making the Executive Tote

  • It is the ultimate power bag. Spacious, sleek, and durable, it’s a no-brainer for anyone looking for luxury with a side of practicality!

  • This particular listing has already been scooped up by one of my readers who was given a preview of this week's dreams because it is just that good.

  • Here is another one with silver hardware for your liking.

P.S. Somehow, all these bags ended up being black ~ complete accident ~ but I guess it’s just the New Yorker in me.

You’re probably wondering: which of these bags will be my new work bag? My Mulberry will of course get a lot of use. The Chanel tote is definitely high on my wishlist—it’s like the 30s version of that YSL tote every 20-something had. But let’s be real—what’s really living rent-free in my head is my obsession with the Belted Toteme Bucket Bag. It’s too new to thrift, but the brown croc is chef’s kiss. I honestly can’t remember the last time I bought a bag full-price, but it just restocked, and I’m this close to caving.

Yes, I already asked my new employer what laptops they issue to make sure it fits. Yes, I went into the store with a similar-sized laptop and cosplayed my commute around the tiny Soho store. Yes, the SA made fun of me, but also found it endearing—and eventually gave me his number so he can get that sweet commission when I do cave.
